PUMPKINS, no Carving...

Well, the granddaughters wanted to try their hand at painting pumpkins.

So off to Walmart we go.

Got some acrylic paints, brushes, and some small pumpkins.

Little Bit decided to paint her pumpkins blue and pink.
This just happens to be her's and her sister's favorite colors.



Doodles decided that one pumpkin would be white,

but hadn't made up her mind what color to do for the other.

Little Bit has a pretty good start on hers. The Pink and the Blue

are really pretty colors.

The project is coming along really nice. It just takes time...

Doodles dolls are standing close by to watch the progress.

Little Bit is helping her pumpkins to dry.

Will this project EVER get done?

Actually, you wouldn't have to paint the bottoms since

you don't really see that part when you set them around.

But we were having fun and decided to paint the whole thing.

Can you believe it! They are done!!

Don't you just love Little Bit's one-eyed pumpkins!

The girls had some pink beads and little flowers, so I

decided I'd super glue some on this pumpkin.

Doodles decided that her other pumpkin would be Rainbow colors.

Doodles said that she didn't want to paint the stem for THAT
was the best part of the pumpkin.  Well, I think the colors are AWESOME!

Each pumpkin gets a special place in the house.

That was so much fun! The best part was just being
with my granddaughters and listening to them talk
about school and their friends; Listening to them laugh;
Being excited about their pumpkins...

Yea, I'm blessed indeed.

Pink Saturday with PUMPKINS

Welcome to Pink Saturday

I'll be joining Beverly at How Sweet the Sound

for this Pink Saturday, where she brings

excitement to all bloggers

for the upcoming holidays.

This Saturday's theme is

Pumpkins & More Pumpkins 

 

Which is a GREAT theme, for 'Tis the Season!'

Getting away from the carving and mess...

I do love the simplicity of these designs

by using acrylic paint and painter's tape and 

using foam brushes to cover one section

of your pumpkin with two coats of acrylic paint.

Please allow 30 minutes of drying time per coat.

You get the idea!!

This is very creative and elegant! 

These are called "Veiled Beauties;"

The effect of black lace on painted pumpkins.

Begin by painting the pumpkin (shown is

Farrow & Ball's Green Blue).

Cut out pieces of lace, brush matte Mod Podge

onto the back sides, and adhere to your pumpkins.

Finish by sealing each with a topcoat of Mod Podge.

BEAUTIFUL!

I do LOVE these!

You start off by brushing the entire pumpkin white

flat acrylic craft paint; let dry 20 minutes.

For the Spiderweb, use a fine-tip paint pen. 

Draw the circles all the way around, then 

strip down the grooves. Let dry for 30 minutes.

Then place one or two plastic spiders.

For the Beetle, you can print a template

and resize if needed. Cut out the stencil

and center it on the pumpkin

using stencil adhesive.

Paint the beetle within the stencil using

three coats of black flat acrylic craft paint.

Let dry 30 minutes and remove stencil.

Now for the Wood Grain! You need to 

mix a small amount of clear glaze with black

flat acrylic craft paint.

Using a fine-tip brush and the photo as a guide

begin painting several irregular circles around 

the pumpkin, spacing them at varying heights.

To complete the pattern, fill the rest of the pumpkin's

surface with curving lines. Let the paint dry for

30 minutes.

THERE! Now you should have some lovely pumpkins

for the holidays! They are not only beautiful for October,

but will look stunning for November also.

I Think It's TUESDAY, Right?

It has been 3 weeks since I have had time to catch up on the latest with my tea drinkers and many other lady friends! I can't believe how the time has gone by. Sometimes I don't know in which way to turn!

Then I remember there is only ONE to turn to, Our Father in Heaven!

We had received bad news that my cousin, Kathy, had passed away.

This photo was taken just three years ago.

She was a happy go lucky kind of gal.

She was never afraid of anything and she was always daring.

She is pictured here with her two brothers.

I can't TELL you how many times listening to her

has gotten us into trouble. But I think my life would

have been a little more boring if I hadn't.

I would never have had the nerve to do those things on my own,

let alone think up some of the things we did.

Yes, Kathy was an adventurist kind of person.

Here she is with two of her three children.

Here she is with me and one of our other cousins that we

hadn't seen since he was very young.

This family reunion was very special.

There were many of us that got together and it had

been many years since we had seen each other.

Here are several of us together. Not everyone got to show up.

That is my oldest brother on the right.

My younger brother didn't make it that year. I don't know why.

He lives rather close, but I think he forgot. They say the mind

is the first thing to go...lol.

My nephews entertained everyone with some Gospel music and 

some wonderful Blue Grass.

Kathy also is survived by her two grandchildren.

Me, Kathy, and Robin.

We are the only girl cousins. All the rest are boys.

We are all going to dearly miss her.

RIP, Kathy.

Kathy had been dealing with kidney problems,

having to be on dialysis. It finally got the best of her.

I can reflect and have good thoughts about Kathy.

She loved her children and grandchildren dearly.

It's FALL for Tea Time

I LOVE the feel of the Fall air, so delicately brushing up against my cheeks this morning. I truly loved the walk into work for the Fall air was very gentle and the humidity had hidden itself. The smell of the fresh air was so soothing that I just wanted to turn around and head somewhere else to enjoy this day. But that couldn't be allowed, so I continued the trek breathing deep and smiling, hoping that the evening would be just as inviting. It gave me something to look forward to.

Days like today are wonderful for sitting by the water.

Or maybe just hanging out feeding the ducks, relaxing and enjoying the day.

Doodles got the most amazing set of Legos for her birthday.

We had a wonderful time putting it together.

It was such a cute little sweet shop with the most precious little people.

I'm sorry the shots are blurred a little. I guess the shinniness of

the tiles make it a little weird.

Doodles said that I didn't get a good shot of the girl in the door,

so I took another one.

This was the most awesome set.  I have always had boys. (I have

three sons.) All the legos that were bought was for boy stuff.

This GIRL STUFF is awesome!!

Doodles said that she enjoyed it so much more when we

put it together TOGETHER! That my friends is PRICELESS!

We did have fun putting it together and enjoyed playing

"The Little Sweet Shop." We got out some of the men legos

from the boys set, so she had plenty of customers.

One day I will show you the finished set.

Now on with my wish list!!

I am so drawn to the Aynsley China. I don't think I have seen

a set yet that I don't like. Here is a favorite I found today.

Just look at this beautiful set! I love the deep gold and

brilliant red. The beautiful roses just bring a smile to your face,

doesn't it? Both the tea cup and saucer is signed, "Ja Bailey."

Now this one put a BIGGER smile on my face! I love the 

cobalt blue!! This has a fruit arrangement inside 

with the peach as the feature.

Back to Tea Tuesday

Well, I missed Tea Time Tuesday last week. A lot has been going on in my world. Remember that tooth/teeth situation I talked about before; well, I was finally able to get it repaired. I have been recovering from oral surgery and finally back to work. I'm not so sure that I am completely thrilled with it just yet, but time will tell.

Also during this time of my recovery, my in-laws had to come to my house to escape Hurricane Isaac. They were planning to come visit later on this year, but the hurricane just hurried things along. It was great having them there. It was my mother and father-in-law and my brother-in-law and his girlfriend. My husband and I have had his family stay with us before when Hurricane Katrina happened. During that time we had 11 people living with us for 2 months. We had converted our garage into a bedroom during that time. But since then it has become a "catch-all" room. You know what I mean. When you get tired of something in one room, you then take it to this "catch-all" room for it to stay for the remainder of it's time or until you know what you want to do with it. Well, we had to hurry up and clear things out or mainly "rearrange" so we could use this room again. Everything worked out pretty good. They had one dog and 2 cats that they brought with them. I felt so bad for the cats for they had to stay in their cages the whole time. They got here on Saturday and left on Sunday. That's quite a bit of time to be stuck in a cage. They were very scared and the dog and cats don't get along so we couldn't let them go in the house. I just felt horrible, but the brother-in-law would get them out and hold them for a bit. And I'm sad to say that I don't have a picture of any of them to share.

By that next Saturday, Doodles had a birthday party! It is so hard to believe that she is 10 now!!

She wanted to hold the party at the local skating rink and

she doesn't even know how to skate. BUT BOY DID

SHE EVER HAVE FUN! Here she is standing with the 

DJ being recognized for her birthday. That's one of her

best friends standing next to her.

She got tons of presents!

The theme was "Monster High!"

Her grandmother Jessie made this wonderful, delicious cake.

This cake was SO MOIST, it's making my mouth water just 

talking about it! YUM!

This is Little Bit putting on her skates. She is so adorable!

And there she goes! Off to enjoy herself! She actually started 

getting the hang of it pretty good.

There goes Doodles! She got pretty good as well!

I could never skate well at all. So I am glad they try so hard to 

be good at what ever they do. I'm very proud of them.
